(OSHKOSH, Wis.) – The Oshkosh Arena broke new ground again this week, by hiring Wendy Hielsberg as General Manager for the new sports and entertainment complex. As the Director of the Oshkosh Convention & Visitors Bureau for the past 19 years, Hielsberg has been called the “face of tourism” in the Oshkosh area.
During Hielsberg’s time with the Convention & Visitors Bureau, tourism expenditures doubled in Oshkosh, putting Oshkosh into the top 10 tourism destinations in the Wisconsin. She spearheaded the “Wisconsin’s Event City” brand that is now known statewide and beyond. Under her leadership, the Oshkosh Convention Center was remodeled and has seen significant growth. She played a significant role in the renovation of The Oshkosh Sports Complex and was instrumental in drawing in most major events in Oshkosh.
In her new role with the Oshkosh Arena, which begins on May 1, Hielsberg will be the primary liaison with the Bucks D-League team and will oversee arena operations. She will also be responsible for sponsorships and for selling and marketing the arena when D-League team is not playing.
“Wendy is a community leader with an obvious and proven passion for Oshkosh,” said Greg Pierce, President of Fox Valley Pro Basketball. “Wendy is exactly the person we need to launch the Oshkosh Arena from start-up to full-fledged community asset.”
